Regulation Exam Prep: 300 Word Essay

Regulation are a set of rules made by authorities. Film & Television, video games, music all must be regulated. In the UK, if music contains explicit language, which is not suitable for younger listeners, it will contain the warning message, parental advisory. As for films and television shows, the BBFC are responsible for regulating such media. Usually, the big question is, who should regulate? There shouldn’t just be one regulator, as there could be misleading biased comments and views upon such media. It is recommended that there be a body of members, from diverse backgrounds. This way, we can ensure that it is much fairer. Regulators must be trusted, if they cannot be trusted then the ratings or regulations they are giving us, cannot be trusted too.  When regulating, the regulators must have multiple viewings, as they could miss something out within the first viewing. And someone who is mature enough to view the following, having some sort of experience on hand, especially if it’s specific to what they are viewing, it will help with regulating then and in the future. Like someone who is regulating video games, must have some knowledge of the video game itself. There are many reasons to regulate. If you have children, you don’t want them seeing content that’s not suitable for them just yet. Such with video games and other forms of media. Especially video games, like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, which both depict violent nature. Which in return can be copied by anyone, some may even go out their way to obtain weapons for the fun of it. As they aren’t just a passive audience, they are an active one, as they are the one in control. Regulation, avoids criminal activities taking place. It avoids lies being shown as truth and to protect those who are vulnerable.
